How Enable VoLTE Can Get You Your Heart's Desire?

Since the Reliance has launched jio in India on large scale many users are buying 4G phones. Though many network operators are there in India itself, people loves the jio as it has announced an introductory offer for all users. All, who have got this facility are trying to become the premium users and they all want to make calls as VoLTE. Many android users who are using 4G LTE are asking how to enable this feature? Whether it works with my smartphone or not? What's the process and in practice does it really work? and much more.

I'm not the tech geek and I want to make clear that what I represent are my sole personal opinions only. I always try to bring the best information to you according to the topic, and I never comment that will be 100% accurate. I want to pursue my passion in this field and try to help other people to get their desired answer.

Now, I am going to reveal this all in detail. Before knowing about LTE and VoLTE you should know what's the 2G, 3G etc. and how they differ from VoLTE.

In mobile communication, 2G was developed for the voice calls only and later it is added with GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) by adopting packet switching of data to access mobile data or the internet. You have seen the sign of 'G' near network strength available. It provides the slowest mobile data transfer and it's known as 2.5G.

Later it evolved to the Enhanced Data for GSM Evolution i.e. EDGE or we say it as 2.75G. It is denoted by the sign 'E' and has the faster speed of data transfer over GPRS.

Before 4G LTE, the whole world was getting the benefit of faster data transfer in Mbps and has different modes as 3G HSPA (High-Speed Packet Access) then HSUPA, HSDPA and HSPA+ made data to flow over the internet.

But 4G LTE changes all terms of communication and nowadays conquering the all smartphone market and people want to get this mode of communication. It's very deep to study and not everyone's cup of tea. So that I am trying to make this article very simple and giving every detail that requires.

In addition to all above, you must know that 2G & 3G are the hybrid types of networks that use circuit switching and packet switching while 4G LTE is the pure packet switching mode of wireless mobile communication. This 4G LTE allows itself to call as VoIP and today 4G VoLTE is booming up, though the next generation of mobile communication (5G) is proposed to come in next couple of years and many companies like Qualcomm are working on this technology.

As I said the VoLTE is booming up but there is a serious issue about it that many users are not able to switch 4G LTE as VoLTE. As jio network is present in all major locations of India and the most people are jio users, it's now easy to switch over 4G LTE.  But in this case, also the major percentage of people are facing serious issues in communication and asking for the solution to the official support services and other communities like forum etc.

I realized the current situation myself so that I'm writing this article for all who want to know about it.

First of all, I want to say that LTE means Long Term Evolution and VoLTE means Voice over Long Term Evolution and provides HD voice calling over 4G LTE itself rather than the 2G/ 3G that we are using currently.

Advantages of 4G VoLTE:

1. Better voice quality than old networks as it provides HD voice calling function.
2. Faster call setup and no lag.
3. More secure and private mode.

How to enable 4G LTE:

As per my knowledge, the VoLTE is not any kind of hardware and pure software that allows you to call as VoIP. Though it is a software, but it requires update itself as 4G VoLTE from 4G LTE and it's much complicated as it includes OTA and VoIP.

If the device is 4G LTE enabled then it's not necessary that it has enabled for VoLTE. Many brands provide this feature on by default while some not. If you have any 4G LTE device then you can check it for VoLTE support on developer's web address or any reputed website for such information.

I also have given some chipsets that have LTE modulation. Check for these chipsets below.

 Qualcomm Snapdragon LTE Supported Chipsets:

  • Snapdragon 820 — processor with X12 LTE
  • Snapdragon 810 — processor with X10 LTE
  • Snapdragon 808 — processor with X10 LTE
  • Snapdragon 620 — processor with X8 LTE
  • Snapdragon 618 — processor with X8 LTE
  • Snapdragon 617 — processor with X8 LTE
  • Snapdragon 616 — processor with X5 LTE
  • Snapdragon 415 — processor with X5 LTE
  • Snapdragon 412 — processor with X5 LTE
  • Snapdragon 212 — processor with X5 LTE
  • Snapdragon 210 — processor with X5 LTE
MediaTek LTE Supported Chipsets:
  • MT6595 — Octa-core LTE platform
  • MT6732 — 64-bit quad-core LTE platform
  • MT6735 — 64-bit quad-core World Mode LTE platform
  • MT6737 — Quad-Core LTE Cat-4 Smartphone SoC
  • MT6738 — Quad-Core LTE Cat-6 Smartphone SoC
  • MT6750 — Octa-Core LTE Cat-6 Smartphone SoC
  • MT6752 — 64-bit Octa-core LTE platform
  • MT6753 — 64-bit Octa-core World Mode LTE platform
  • MT6795 — 64bit LTE Octa-core platform
There are so many except than above may found in the market and they may function same as the listed above and it's not necessary that every chip has VoLTE. Even some smartphones have hardware support, but it is possible that they haven't received required updates to enable VoLTE protocol or feature.

Now I am giving you two tricks to enable the VoLTE on your smartphone:

As I said earlier if you want to make free (not for all networks) unlimited HD voice calls then you should switch for the VoLTE and before using VoLTE check whether it is enabled or not? If you are not able to find this option of enable VoLTE or enhanced LTE mode then follow my simple guide and it is basic that won't harm your smartphone. And even if you will get the issue, simply restore mobile, so I suggest to take backup of data before moving on.

1. To enable VoLTE for any smartphone:

a) Open phone dial and type - *#*#4636#*#*

b) It will redirect you to 'Testing'. Select 'Phone information'.

c) It will show 'Turn off/ On VoLTE Provisioned Flag'.

d) From there you can enable it.

e) Restart your device.

f) Now you can access this feature from the 'Settings > Mobiles and Networks and you can switch it on/ off.

g) Enjoy unlimited HD voice calling for free as VoLTE.

Important Tip:

i) If it is already enabled and VoLTE is not working then repeat above process for a couple of times and you will be able to switch to VoLTE feature.

ii) Some mobiles will require compulsory upgrades to enable the VoLTE like OTA updates etc. and in such cases ask your developer for updates.

iii) It generally works well with android Lollipop 5.0 and above.

 2. To enable Voice for Reliance jio:

As I don't like to promote brand unless I like it very much, but for jio users - You can download 'Jio Join' or 'Jio Voice' app for voice calling over LTE network and after installing any one on your phone you can use jio for voice calling. Some issues are till not solved and if any update is there I will share it.

I hope you have found some useful information. If you like this article don't forget to follow me on social media and share this one.

  1. Thank you for the information. Jio Voice is functional only when you are connected to internet. However I see friends calling from jio SIM without internet. Are the calls of the latter case not HD Voice?

  2. It can be. Look, jio supports VoLTE and if you have VoLTE enabled devices, you can call without data on. In that case, the data carrier will be 4G LTE network and it won't switch to 2/3G for calling that happens otherwise for non VoLTE mobiles. But jio has some issues about it. If you are able to do that then it's very nice and you can avail free HD calling for unlimited time as your 4G pack lasts.
