How Does DTS-i System Works For Automobiles?
DIGITAL TWIN SPARK- IGNITION:
Digital twin Spark Ignition is the modern technology in motorbikes and it is revealed in India by Bajaj Auto Ltd.,one of the most trusted two-wheeler manufacturing company. It is the patented technology from the Bajaj Auto Ltd. and first offered in Pulsar brand in 2003.
In DTS-i engines, there are two spark plugs located at the opposite ends of the combustion chamber. Hence faster flame travel can be achieved, and faster and efficient combustion takes place. It can be tuned further to deliver mind-blowing performance as DTS-Fi or for exceptional average as DTS-Si. According to Bajaj Auto Ltd., this technology raises the power output by around 1 Hp.
E.g. Pulsar 150, Pulsar 180, Pulsar 220
In this type of engine, the conventional carburetor is replaced by the fuel injector and throttle body. The fuel injector sprays fuel according to signals from ECU, which is a part of EMS (Engine Management System) and works based on the ignition map stored in the ECU, that is provided with all required parameters like Load, RPM etc.
This technology enhances the power output by giving the quick response to the throttle. It has one more benefit i.e. Low emissions. Because only required fuel is injected according to current conditions and ignition map, the combustion does not leave any unburnt fuel containing HC percentage in that. It can also detect any malfunction in the system if any.
2) DTS-Si:
DTS-Si means the Digital Twin Spark- Swirl ignition. It again uses two spark plugs to burn the air+fuel mixture entering the combustion chamber. But in has quite different than regular DTS-i technology.
In DTS-Si the air+fuel mixture is made to undergo turbulence and swirl inside the combustion chamber to ensure better mixing of air+fuel for highly efficient combustion.
Digital Triple Spark- Ignition:
In DTS-i (Triple Spark) engines, Bajaj Auto Ltd. modified its current DTS-i engines with DTS-i (Triple Spark) to provide unprecedented performance and efficiency. It is also controlled by the ECU or 8-bit intelligent CDI unit.
This technology provides 27% faster than the twin spark and 50% faster than the single spark plug engines. It also provides better economy and lowers emissions.
E.g. Pulsar NS 200, Pulsar AS 200
